2008 brings a new ground, a new captain and a few new faces!!
After many years of hard work, Brixworth finally move to a brand new ground on the out-skirts of the village, in the grounds of local businessman Dallas Burston. Our head groundsman Dave Salisbury has been putting in the hours and the ground is beginning to show the signs of a wonderful venue we all knew it would be. Overlooking Pitsford Resevoir, surrounded by white picket fence, it has the makings of a spectacular place to play cricket.
Alex Lacey will lead the first eleven for the first time, a solid batsman, off spinner and excellent fielder, Alex will bring enthusiasm and a level head to the role and we wish him every success. Last years skipper went to war without much of seam bowling attack, Alex wont have the same excuses, the club are delighted to have secured the services of former England test star, Devon Malcolm, who's experience, knowledge (and pace) will only be a benefit to the whole club. In support Aussie Gerard McMahon will be joining us shortly, he too is a new ball bowler and enjoying an excellent Australian summer, with wickets and runs. We look forward to welcoming Gerard and introducing him to his new team-mates.
The second eleven will be lead by Andy Roper, retirment didn't suit him, so he's coming back to a job he knows well, Andy will have a fine balancing act to do, with the age spectrum of the 2nd's ranging from 15-59. Hopefully his 1st team experience will be passed onto the younger members so they can step up for Alex when required.
Our Sunday skipper will be Tom Chapman (who will also be Vice Captain for 2nds), Tom will be one of the youngest captains in Brixworth's history, but having lead our Under 17's last year, he'll take the role in his stride.
The club has a great deal of work on at the moment, and is constantly on the look out for potential new players, new members to help with the running of the club, new sponsors, anyone feeling they would like to know more about our club, please contact us, we would be delighted to welcome you to Brixworth Cricket Club
